  • Plan your engagement party

Initial Wedding Plans

  • Set the date
  • Decide on a wedding budget
  • Think about the style of wedding you would like
  • Employ a wedding planner if you chose one
  • Select the priest/celebrant or registry office
  • Select your bridal party
  • Write a guest list so you can approximate numbers for the reception
  • Choose your wedding reception venue and book it
  • Book any equipment hire required, i.e. seats, marquee, etc
  • If you are having a professional decorator, choose and book them
  • Start shopping for your bridal gown, dressmaker and bridal accessories
  • Shop for suits and dresses for the wedding party and organize fittings
  • Reserve the wedding transportation, i.e. cars, horse and carriage, limousines, etc
  • Choose and book the photographer and videographer
  • Order and send 'save the date' cards to out of town guests

3 Months Before

  • Select and order your wedding cake
  • Order wedding invitations and stationery
  • Decide if you want to include a gift registry card with your invitations and arrange
  • Arrange passport, visas, inoculations, etc for your honeymoon, if overseas
  • Organise a Master of Ceremonies
  • Address and send out wedding invitations
  • Organise florist and your wedding flowers
  • Select music or musicians for the wedding ceremony
  • Book reception music and entertainment
  • Choose your wedding rings

2 Months Before

  • Give notice of intent to marry to wedding official at least one full month and no more than 6 months in prior to the wedding date
  • Organise wedding ceremony rehearsal
  • Mail your invitatioins if you haven't already done so
  • Ensure you have all your bridal accessories organised
  • Arrange your honeymoon and travel insurance
  • Consider wedding insurance

6 Weeks Before

  • Confirm reception venue and any other bookings
  • confirm wedding flowers with the florist
  • Work out a system for tracking your RSVP's
  • Plan hen's and buck's nights
  • Purchase gifts for wedding party
  • Prepare your wedding speeches
  • Purchase disposable cameras
  • Choose bonbonniere, place cards, table stationery and thank you cards

4 Weeks Before

  • Advise venues of estimated guest numbers
  • confirm minister / celebrant
  • Have a hairstyle and make up rehearsal
  • Final bridal gown fitting
  • Finalise details with the photographer
  • Finalise wedding party clothes and fittings
  • Update your guest list
  • Start writing thank you cards
  • Get your wedding gift tracker ready
  • Arrange beverages or set budget with reception venue
  • Confirm honeymoon and travel insurance details

2 Weeks Before

  • Ensure all final fittings for wedding clothes are done and garments collected.
  • Make sure the wedding party are prepared for their duties
  • Finalise guest numbers and confirm with the recption venue caterers
  • Confirm hairdresser and makeup artist
  • Create reception seating plan and finalise place cards
  • Have something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue
  • Plan honeymoon clothes

1 Week Before

  • Have some time to yourself before the guests start arriving in town
  • Finalise and confirm all arrangements and bookings
  • Have a final wedding rehearsal
  • Check that all outfits and accessories are ready
  • Pack a bridal emergency kit for the day
  • On the night before, layout your bridal gown, lingerie and accessories (you will sleep better)
  • Check you have gifts wrapped and ready for the bridal party
  • Finalise your clothes for the honeymoon
  • Leave at least a few days to relax
  • Get a massage, pamper yourself, have your nails done.
